A compilation book about comme des garcons / rei kawakubo (published 2005). As editor Sanae Shimizu explains in the afterword: "the present book is a compilation based on reporting for two television programs, the NHK Special, "What the World Values in Her Fashion: REI KAWAKUBO and Comme des Garçons," and the Hi-Vision Special, "Fashion Revolutinonary: REI KAWAKUBO and the World of Comme des Garçons." Single frames of video filmed with a Hi-Vision camera were captured, and transformed into static images, after which the images were digitally printed".
The book combines collection, store, and workshop images with interviews, reflections, and commentary from a range of people, including other designers (alexander mcqueen, paul smith, walter van beirendonck, others), store owners (joyce ma), comme des garcons staff, and kawakubo herself. The images of comme des gatcons workspaces and insight into the production and patternmaking process provided by staff is a particular highlight.
