An intricate black dress by NOIR KEI NINOMIYA, designed by Ninomiya and produced under the COMME DES GARCONS umbrella in 2014. The dress is made from long, narrow pieces of black poly velvet which have been braided together rather than being stitched. This reflects Ninomiya's ongoing interest in exploring alternative ways to construct garments, particularly methods that avoid or minimize sewing. The result here, with interlocking pieces of black velvet, is a subtle but interesting texture, as the raised pieces of velvet catch the light differently from the areas that sit beneath. The dress has a generous, rounded neck, and short, cap style sleeves. It is lined in a soft cupra.
There is a small amount of fraying to the stitching of the lining at the underarms (see pictures), but it should be fairly easy to repair.
