Maison Martin Margiela 6 1990s 2000s grey wool melton reversed placket coat - 42

Grey coat from maison martin margiela line 6 (circa late 1990s - early 2000s), made from a stiffer-than-normal-for-melton wool-nylon melton. The coat has paneling in various places, with darting at the elbow (producing somewhat-articulated sleeves), shaping through the front body, and a curved back yoke.

As per often for martin margiela garments (especially pre-diesel), a number of the details feel familiar (as if resembling traditional garments) but just slightly strange: the flap pockets at the waist appear stretched, slightly longer than usual, and what first appears to be a covered placket is actually a reversed placket (rather than an additional flap, the buttonholes have been put on the inside and the buttons on the inside of the outer placket edge, so that no fastenings are visible when the coat is fastened but, if you look closely, thread from where the buttons are sewn down is (costume national finished outerwear like this frequently)). The coat is unlined, and because melton/boiled wool doesn't fray, the seam allowance has not been finished (eg with overlocking or binding).

The coat is shown couchfitted, with a patterned paul smith turtleneck (used here as head/hair), vintage creased nylon cargo skirt (sold inshop at a flat shop), and sneakers (couchfitter's mother's own), in picture 10.
