Jean Colonna SS1998 floral burnout sleeveless dress with asymmetrical shoulder
Sleeveless dress by french designer jean colonna, from spring summer 1998. The fabric, an unusual jersey knit made from viscose and nylon, has an elaborate orange floral print on a cream base, with additional sheer sections created via devore or 'burnout' (a process of chemically dissolving the viscose portion of the fabric). Additionally, the top of the dress is asymmetrical, with a spaghetti-style strap on the left side, a fuller shoulder on the right, and an a subtly-asymmetric neckline joining the two. The armholes have been finished with self-fabric bands but placed on the outside rather than the inside, exposing the overlocking.
Pictures 9 and 11 show small portions of the fabric used for this dress as part of patchwork garments on the SS1998 runway, and picture 10 shows a similar dress pattern made in a different fabric.
The dress is in good condition, with minor wear.
