A skirt suit by English designer MARGARET HOWELL. Produced in a dark gray worsted wool with a lighter gray stripe, the suit is composed of a jacket and skirt. Both have button front openings, with five on the jacket and seven on the skirt. The button stands have been designed to fasten different ways so that when both garments are worn together the front openings will sit at slightly different places on the body and creating a very subtle asymmetry, with the jacket buttoning to the right and the skirt buttoning to the left.
The jacket has a two way, convertible style collar, which can be worn up to create a crisp point collar or opened out in a slightly more casual manner. The jacket also has two large patch pockets at the front and two small splits at the base of the side seam that provide some extra movement. And while the jacket is cut oversized, the skirt is narrower, with darting at the waist to create shape and a relatively straight cut through the body. This creates a contrasting silhouette between top and bottom, with the jacket hanging loose and the skirt sitting closer to the body. The skirt does not have side pockets, but there are two diagonal jet pockets at the back.
