taffeta rectangle trench coat

Regular price $980.00
A vintage raincoat by ISSEY MIYAKE. Produced in the 1980s from a crisp, lightweight yellow taffeta, the coat has a four button, double breasted front closure, wide notch lapels, and angled flap pockets at the waist. As was typical for Miyake outerwear during this period, the coat is cut with enormous volume, making it comfortable to wear and moving beautifully when it is in motion. Miyake is well known for his voluminous cocoon coats, but - as in this case - he also frequently cut coats as large rectangles, creating excess fabric that hangs pleasingly off the body. This is especially true here, with such a lightweight material used, and you can see the way the excess fabric falls in the second picture. Due to the synthetic material used to produce the coat, there are two eyelets at each underarm which help the coat to breathe.
