Comme des Garcons winter 1990 brown wool distorted bodice pleated skirt suit
Jacket and skirt suit by comme des garcons, from autumn winter 1990. Made from a substantial brown wool gabardine fabric, the jacket is intricately tailored, with the front alone composed of 34 seperate fabric panels which partly serve to create three dimensional shaping over the bust. The front section of the jacket also has blue stripes of varying widths - extremely narrow, narrowish, and quite wide (the 'quite wide' sections, close to both side seams, are actually made from a different (nylon and polyurethane) material). The back of the jacket is plain, and simpler in its construction, although still features darting for shape. The shoulder and sleeve construction is very unusual.
The skirt - a long, pleated number - is a more straightforward affair, but is striking both in its own right and as a complement to the jacket.
Picture 20 shows a variation of the jacket worn on the AW 1990 runway, and pictures 21-22 show a black vinyl version of the jacket used in a photoshoot (by english photographer brian griffin) for comme des garcons' famous "Six" magazine. You can see behind the scenes footage of the photoshoot, which was shot in Georgia c. 1989, here.
Jacket marked size S, skirt marked size M (likely fits small)
