raw silk pleated wrap skirt

$640.00

A wrap skirt by JUNYA WATANABE COMME DES GARCONS. Produced in 1997, the skirt is made from an incredible, heavy raw silk with a rough, uneven surface. It is constructed from a huge rectangle which has been sewn into wide pleats which are sewn down at the waist but then allowed to open out through the body. This creates enormous volume, with an already large measurement at the waist (120 cm) flaring to a circumference of 386 cm (3.8 metres of fabric) at the hem. The skirt is worn by folding it around the body and then cinching the waist via two thick, unbleached cotton herringbone straps. The edges of the skirt have been left unfinished and allowed to fray, with a band of tape fused and then stitched on the inside to prevent the skirt unraveling past a certain point.

An extra piece of the unbleached raw silk used to make the skirt has been included in a zip lock bag so that any damage can be repaired using the original material.
